Agriturismo

Also set within the estate, villa Volpi is available for weekly rentals as well as shorter stay in a Bed & Breakfast formula during certain times of the year. Built in the mid-19th century at the top of a little hill, the villa boasts 360-degree views of the surrounding hills. It is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, offering its guests a taste of the delightful Tuscan countryside, a stone’s throw away from Lucca.

History

Built by the Trenta family, the villa’s origin date back to the 15th century, even though its current aspect is typical of the 16th century. The family was one of the most important in Lucca at the time, and the villa was at the center of a large agricultural estate that went from San Gemignano di Moriano all the way to Lucca.

An interesting fact is the role played by the villa in some historical events of the region. In 1554, it hosted Piero Strozzi and his army as he waited for reinforcements on his way to attempt retaking Florence from the Medici. In 1944, it briefly hosted the German command post on this section of the Gothic line.
